Think about the relationship American pioneers had with Native Americans. What steps could have been taken in order to create great relationships with the Native Americans who occupied land in the West?
In order to have better relationships with Native Americans, people could have bartered with them. For example, in exchange for Native Americans giving settlers land, the settlers could work as part-time farm hands for Native Americans.
They could have given them more land and made peace because the indians had some better life styles than the americans. This would have avoided conflict with the tribes -kenji
I think that there could have been some steps that they could have done to build a relation like maybe offering half and half so the pioneers got some land. Or the Native Americans said " oh look over the hill there is no of us and same land you can move there and they could have supplied them with food water or shelter so this really never happened. ~Sierra :)
That could work, only, why would the Native Americans want to help the pioneers or the Americans because they were being "cruel" to them. The pioneers would probably still want their certain land and make the Native Americans go to "the land over the hill." However, I do see where you are going with this, and it is a good idea. -Tina
The Native Americans could have maybe could have helped the Americans Pioneers and help them for what they were doing. Native Americans could have asked what they did wrong and forgive them self for what they have done. Those are a couple ways they could have better relationships. -RYAN :)
the native americans didn't have to apologize for anything besides them already living on the land that the settlers wanted, so they don't really have to apologize. also you said " could have maybe could have..."------sierra pointed that out :) -bella
i think that settlers could have taken more steps to moving native americans like, being a lot nicer about moving them. they could have not used guns to force them to move and maybe they could have given them something better to move onto with houses and plenty of food supply and water. ] -bella
i think that if they were friendly to each other everything would be fine. For example, the American pioneers should not kick them of their property and think it is theirs. I think this because if they would just let them keep their land things would be fine! -Ava Hallman
First of all, Americans did not have to force the Native Americans off of their land. America was large enough, and people didn't have to move West in the first place. However, if it was completely necessary for Americans to move West, I don't see why Native Americans and Americans couldn't just live together in peace. I'm almost positive that the Native Americans weren't occupying every centimeter of land, and there was probably space for Americans. Later, after peace/friendship had been formed, they could talk out some agreements to divide land up/expand territory. ~Annabelle C.
In order to make a great relationship with the Native Americans, the pioneers could have offered a barter, or pay the Native Americans, or just make a compromise.
I would make a compromise so that the Indians and the settlers could both have land and live together and not try to kill the settlers and the settlers do not kill the Indians.
pioneers could have decided to say you can get half of your land back and some of your supplies. another thing is they could of had a compromise or a talk. and one last thing they already had their own land.
The pioneers could have bartered with the Native Americans to create a better relationship. The pioneers also could have made an agreement with the Natives, that if they helped the pioneers settle land, then the pioneers would let the Native Americans live with them. -Isabella Luz
In my opinion, I think that the Native Americans and the pioneers could of either bartered or at the very least compromised. I also think that they could of SHARED the land. ( I guess share wasn't a big word back then!) ~Mia Otoski
To make a better relationship with the Native Americans I think they should have not pushed the Native Americans off of their land and force them to live on reservations. We could have come up with some sort of compromise to share the land so they could both live on it. This way we could have saved all of that fighting. - Hanna P.
I think that American pioneers could have talked with the Native Americans and figured out a way for both of them to live together. The Native Americans taught American pioneers how to do things like hunt and fish so the least they could have done is find out a way to live peacefully with them instead of giving them blankets with smallpox and drive them out of their land.
I think that maybe the settlers could have gone around the Natives because, like Annabelle said, there was plenty of land to go around, especially farther west. Also, I think that since some people were killing the buffalo for fun, I think that maybe they could have realized that some people were relying off of them for food. Last, I know the settlers gave the Native Americans some land, but clearly it was not enough. I guess you could say that the settlers were treating them like property, “Lets put the Keyauwee tribe in that storage bin until later!” I mean, that is just wrong. Those are just a few of the ways that the Settlers could have been nicer to the Natives. -Sarah Prevost
Instead of kicking Native Indians off of their property, American pioneers could have made a barter with the Native American tribes or even make a compromise with them. I would agree, that kicking Natives off their land to reservations was unnecessary. Even so, reservations had very few animals and so, you could see why moving them off property was wrong. Also, I get the reason why American pioneers wanted to move west, but at the same time, I also see why Native Indians didn't move off of their land. War wasn't necessary either. They could have ended this all with just a single compromise or maybe they could have ended this all during a simple court session. Anyways, I'm pretty sure Native Americans still live in the U.S. today, and I'm also pretty sure they live way better now than when they were fighting with White pioneers. ~Coco L.
The Americans could have agreed on something like sharing the land. The Americans could also pay a fee if they wanted land instead of just kicking the Native Americans out. -Losha

To make a good relationship with the Native Americans the pioneers would have to respect their culture. This would be very hard. The pioneers showed it when they went west. The pioneers would have to become part of the Native American culture if they wanted a good relationship. -Vishwa
Even though the pioneers and the Native Americans had unfriendly relationships with each other, they still could have resolved their problems more peacefully and not have had a war. The pioneers and Americans could have kept their promises and treaties and shared the land to keep from having a war. The Native Americans should not have had to do anything to change their ways. The Native Americans only threatened pioneers because the Americans were taking the land, which was promised to them in a treaty. -Tina
AS we can see pioneers did not have very good relationships with Natives they treated them very badly. But I think that the Americans could have kept their words and al the FAKE treaties that they made. And the Americans could have let the natives be in their land and the natives teach them ways of living in there area. This could have changed the America we know today.
If the pioneers had left the the natives some land that they wouldn't just take away then they might have had a chance to have a neutral relationship. -Evan L.
A great step that they could have taken to increase better relationships between Native Americans and pioneers was if pioneers wouldn't force them off their land, and instead, share their land. They also could've shared food sources and different techniques for doing different activities

I think if the pioneers kept there promises everything would of worked out and another thing is if the Native Americans were given some land that they actually actually able to live in. Owen
instead of the pioneers just coming up and saying yo this is our land now so leave. they could of made a compromise or had a discussion. like native get half and we get half of the west. but the dumb pioneers want to just take the land they where living on. like they should of thought to their self's how it feels to get their land token. and last of all maybe if the pioneers shared the land with the native Americans they could have put their brains together and made amazing creations like amazing cars. but last of all my facts they should just have said ok we will let you keep this part of land that has some gold and well have this part of land that has some gold and they could have gave the native Americans some resources because they had better usage. (in my own words the native Americans should of sneak up on them and killed them )that's just in my words.
I wish the pioneers could have had some respect and said ' Hi may i have some of your land " This would have saved many wars and it would be nice to show respect. Even though they did not say that, the Native Americans should have killed them at night and burn down everything they were using to kill the natives. -Parker Vellieux

A great step that they could have taken to increase better relationships between Native Americans and pioneers was if pioneers wouldn't force them off their land, and instead, share their land. They also could've shared food sources and different techniques for doing different activities
ReplyDelete-Max Willis (P.S. Ms.Hall im so sorry for posting so late it's just that I forgot about it until i saw my agenda!
I think they should have split the land evenly between them then they would both be happy.

I think if the pioneers kept there promises everything would of worked out and another thing is if the Native Americans were given some land that they actually actually able to live in.

instead of the pioneers just coming up and saying yo this is our land now so leave. they could of made a compromise or had a discussion. like native get half and we get half of the west. but the dumb pioneers want to just take the land they where living on. like they should of thought to their self's how it feels to get their land token. and last of all maybe if the pioneers shared the land with the native Americans they could have put their brains together and made amazing creations like amazing cars. but last of all my facts they should just have said ok we will let you keep this part of land that has some gold and well have this part of land that has some gold and they could have gave the native Americans some resources because they had better usage.

They should have talked it out and if they weren't agreeing just share the land. It is a better way than going to war.
