  2. It was interesting because the Americans felt that the Spanish people would take there jobs even though they couldn't speak English. The overall effect was they had to learn English in order to stay in the Us

  3. I think war could've been avoided. It could've been avoided because Spain and America could've made a treaty. The overall outcome was that Cuba got to be an independent and the U.S. gained Puerto Rico.

  4. This was a simple war. The Civil War (In my opinion) was 100x worst. The Americans and the Spanish could've created a treaty, which stated that Spain could have some of Puerto Rico. The outcome was that the U.S. gained Puerto Rico, and Cuba became an independent country.

  8. The most interesting thing I learned was the fact that John Hay described the conflict as a "splendid little war". I don't think any war should be described as "splendid", seeing as almost all wars result in death/bloodshed. The overall outcome was that the United States won.

  9. The overall outcome was that America had won the war. The war was not that interesting because it was so easy for America to win the war. I learned that if your men are not ready for war you should not go to war. The men from the Spanish army were not ready to fight America yet

  20. I read about the Spanish-American War and I thought that a couple facts were interesting. Before the war even started, the Cubans were forced into slavery and thousands died from starvation, disease, or both. Also after they were forced into slavery, the Cubans were treated horribly by the Spanish which led to the Cubans wanting independence. The war could have been prevented by the Spanish not treating the Cubans more civilized and less of slaves.

  22. I learned that the Spanish American War was won by the Americans. In one of the attacks, the Hispanics lost all their men, while only one American died. The reason for this was that Spain had been upset at the US for supporting Cuba's independence, it got the best out of them causing war. Their wouldn't be a war if there was some sort of treaty, some way to settle their differences.

  23. The Spanish-American war was fought in 1898 it was a short war. America was trying to help Cuba because they were under Spain's control and Cuba had been fighting for freedom for a long time. After a couple battles the war was over Spain surrender gave Puerto Rico freedom and Cuba and sold Guam for 20$ million. That was the outcome and what happened.

  29. The Spanish-American War was a very short war. The result of the wars was Cuba's Independence. In 1898, the Treaty of Paris was signed. Cuba got their independence but Spain gave up Puerto Rico, and Guam which then became American territories. The Philippines was sold to the U.S with Guam, Cuba, and Puerto Rico for $20 million dollars. Cuba won back their independence. The United States ended up building a Naval Base on Guantánamo Bay.

  45. I learned that it was one of the shortest wars ever and that it started when the U.S navy destroyed a Spanish fleet. Then in late June U.S troops arrived in Cuba. The American troops were barley organized and most of the food spoiled on the way to Cuba. They were hot in their heavy wool uniforms left over from the civil war and the Calvary had to leave behind their horses because there weren't enough boats to take them all across. None the less, the Americans stomped the Spanish quickly led by no other than Theodore Roosevelt. He formed a group called the rough riders and led 2 big attacks. The war was over within weeks.
