    1. I'm pretty sure that the South had more land mass in total, but that's a great question I would like to learn about. Do you think having more land would be an advantage, or a disadvantage? With more land, you would have more to protect and would have to spread soldiers in more places, along with defenses and camps.

    1. The South had a small army, and knew that the slaves "belonged" to them, which was perfectly legal back then. (I think.) Therefore, the Southern could fight with slaves the same way they could fight with guns or cannons, because slaves were deemed as property.

    2. Kids did not fight but they did "fight" by being drummer boys or bear the flag stuff like that. They would also carry news and sometimes supplies, it was many male boys who did this. Also the south did force slaves to fight for slavery, how messed up is that?

    1. The war lasted 4 years, it was from 1861 to 1865. You could say the war ended right away, but the effects lasted for a while, such as arguments between the North and South. Slave owners did not let slaves go because they were MEAN as you said, and they knew they could keep the slaves without the North getting mad. Slaves were a big way to make money, so any way to keep them was great for the South.

Ok, so did any former slaves that were free in the North fight in the war because they wanted to, or did mostly white men fight, because on the video it looked like there was a small percentage of African American fought on the South and the others were caucasian men. On the side where it represented the North it looked like there was no African American people on the North's side.

    1. My best guess was that it still took a while after the war to adjust to no slavery and people still owned slaves because no one really enforced the no slavery rule but a couple years after president Lincoln might have enforced the law before he was assassinated or maybe one of his followers enforced it. I also wonder if the person who tried to assassinate Abraham Lincoln was upset about no slavery and if Lincoln was assassinated during or after the war. We may never know......... just kidding I bet we will learn it in social studies.

    1. Most soldiers in the Civil War and other wars eat things such as an assortment of meats, usually salted, and also coffee along with raw sugar, raw salt, and vinegar. When in season, they would also eat dried fruit, and very rarely fresh fruit. There were soldiers from many different ages, which is the same as many other wars. However, the Union had an age restriction on their soldiers, so none of their soldiers were younger than 18. The South, however, had no age restrictions, and used many young children as drummers, fifers, or buglers. About 20% of the soldiers in all of the war were younger than 18. There were many naval battles in the Civil War, such as the Battle of Hampton Road and the Battle of Cherbourg. There were many other naval battles, and a good amount of Civil War battles were naval.
